Abstract

In this paper, the identification of the damping ratio on an existing eight-story steel-encased reinforced concrete building is shown through strong motion observation data. Damping ratios are identified considering soil-structure interaction effects. Damping ratio is separated into damping coefficient of building and damping coefficient of rocking. By the identification of strong motion observation data, the following results are shown:

1) Damping coefficient of building tends to increase due to aging and tends to decrease due to acceleration level in some extent.

2) Damping coefficient of rocking tends to decrease due to aging in some extent and tends to increase after 2011 earthquake. Damping coefficient of rocking tends to increase due to acceleration level.
