Abstract
In order to examine the relationship between the JMA instrumental seismic intensity and the damage ratios of wooden houses, the damage survey data by local governments during the recent Japanese damage earthquakes such as the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu and the 2000 Tottori-ken Seibu earthquakes are compiled. The results indicate that the ratios of the collapsed houses, severely damaged houses, and partially damaged houses tend to increase suddenly at the intensities 6+, 6, and 6-, respectively, and that the relationships for the 1995 Hyogo-ken Nanbu earthquake are different from those for the 2000 Tottori-ken Seibu earthquake at the intensity 6 or higher.
