Abstract

An 88-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with severe abdominal pain of four days' duration. On arrival, he had generalized abdominal pain with guarding and CT examination disclosed abdominal free air. The diagnosis was peritonitis due to perforation and an emergency surgery was performed. Following the laparotomy, a perforation was found in the transverse colon. Partial resection of the transverse colon, peritoneal drainage and colostomy were performed. The tumor was a comparatively soft type 2 lesion associated with a perforation in its center. Histopathological examination revealed diffuse large B-cell type lymphoma. Malignant lymphoma of the large intestine with perforation is very rare. We report on our present case with a review of some relevant literature.
