Abstract
In this report, we describe the progress of therapeutic endoscopy for acute cholangitis and cholecystitis. In terms of acute cholangitis, recently, endosonography (EUS) -guided bile duct drainage or single- or double-balloon enteroscopy assisted biliary drainage, have been developed. In contrast, with regards to acute cholecystitis, endoscopic gallbladder stenting has been performed since more than 2 decades ago. EUS-guided gallbladder drainage also has been reported as an alternative drainage method. In the second edition of the clinical guidelines for acute cholangitis and cholecystitis, these techniques should all be included.
