Abstract
Although the Japanese Guidelines for the Management of Sepsis, the first set of guidelines on sepsis in Japan, were reported recently, there are some divergence between the Japanese guideline and the Surviving Sepsis Campaign Guidelines (SSCG) which represent the global standards of a sepsis practice. The divergence between the two guidelines is thought to be caused by the method of grading of the recommendations. In the SSCG, grading of the recommendations is decided based on a GRADE system. In the Japanese sepsis guidelines, the notation of recommendation comprised the quality of evidence and the strength of the recommendation, whereas the decision processes of recommendation in the Japan sepsis guidelines differed from those in the SSCG. We evaluated herein the Japanese sepsis guidelines in accordance with an IOM criterion. In addition, we showed some ambiguous examples and discussed the solutions.
