Abstract
We report a rare case of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome with recurrent obturator hernia. A 49-year-old woman with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome visited our hospital complaining of lower abdominal pain. She had undergone laparotomy and hernioplasty for right obturator hernia two years ago. Abdominal computed tomography(CT) demonstrated dilated intestinal loops and incarceration of the intestine between the pectineal muscle and external obturator muscle. Emergency surgery was performed under the diagnosis of bowel obstruction due to recurrent obturator hernia. The incarcerated ileum at 50cm from the Bauhin valve was released carefully. The hilus of the hernia was repaired with a mesh-plug. The postoperative course was favorable, and the patient was discharged from the hospital on the 15th hospital day. While Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is rare, surgical management in cases of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is difficult because of the tissue fragility. Repair with a mesh is useful when performing hernioplasty for obturator hernia in patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.
