In the current study, we compared the clinical data between 26 survival patients and 7 deceased patients before and after introduction of polymyxin B-immobilized fiber (PMX-DHP) column direct hemoperfusion therapy for septic shock. There were no differences in age, gender, site of infection, and presence or absence of source control surgery between the two groups. The vasopressor dependency index (VDI) values before introduction of PMX-DHP were significantly low in the survival group and high in the deceased group (P<0.05). There were significant improvements in metabolic acidosis in the survival group and significant worsening of metabolic acidosis in the deceased group at six hours after the start of PMX-DHP, Treatment of septic shock patients with severe cardiac dysfunction with PMX-DHP may be insufficient to ensure recovery, and early treatment and limits to adaptation should be considered.
