A Case of Laparoscopic Obturator Hernia Repair Using a Reversed 3D Mesh

Abstract

An 82–year–old woman presented to our hospital with the chief complaint of vomiting. Abdominal CT showed a right obturator hernia with incarcerated small intestine. Since no apparent bowel ischemia was suspected, we performed manual reduction under ultrasound guidance. Elective laparoscopic surgery was performed eight days after the reduction. Laparoscopy revealed a right obturator hernia and a right femoral hernia. We conducted transabdominal preperitoneal repair of both hernias using a reversed 3D MAX^TM Light Mesh (3D mesh). It was possible to ensure an anatomically correct fit and minimized wrinkling, because of the three–dimensional curved shape and shape retaining sealed edge of the reversed mesh.
