We report a rare case of a neuroendocrine tumor(NET)of the small intestine with intussusception. A 71-year-old male patient was admitted to our hospital with the chief complaints of black stools and dizziness on exertion. Blood examination revealed severe anemia. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography showed intussusception of the small intestine and an enhancing mass lesion in the telescoped segment. We diagnosed intussusception caused by a small-intestinal tumor and performed emergency surgery. At the time of laparotomy, the intussusception reduced spontaneously. A mass lesion measuring 20 mm in a diameter was recognized 110 cm from the terminal ileum. There was no evidence of lymphadenopathy, liver metastasis or peritoneal dissemination. We performed partial resection of the small intestine without lymph node dissection. The patient was discharged 8 days after the operation. Histopathological examination revealed a NET(G1). Small-intestinal NETs are considered to account for only 2.2% of all cases of gastrointestinal NETs in Japan. Only 7 cases of small-intestinal NETs with intussusception have been reported in the literature, including our case.
