Abstract

Adult midgut volvulus is a comparatively rare condition. A 26-year-old man visited a hospital with the complaint of mild epigastric pain after meals. He gave a history of experiencing early satiety from a young age. Computed tomography revealed findings consistent with the diagnosis of intestinal volvulus and the patient was referred to our hospital 8 days later for surgical treatment. We scheduled surgery for 2 days later, as the patient’s symptom had persisted for a long time, and begun to worsen. Intraoperatively, reversed intestinal rotation with midgut volvulus was observed. The small intestine was twisted clockwise by 540 degrees. Ladd’s procedure and appendectomy were performed. After that operation, the patient showed improved appetite improved and also gained weight.
