Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the process of change on family images held by a person with the use of PAC analysis and to examine the effect that PAC analysis gives to them.

The subject on this case study is a 20 year-old university female student. On PAC analysis, firstly, the subject evaluates the degree of similarity of each image by free association. Secondly, investigator makes cluster analysis. Lastly, the subject organizes each image. Before and after PAC analysis, the family image method was used so that the process of change can be understood more clearly on visual.

In the beginning, the subject had the image that she had strong power in her family and that she was in the center of her family. However, on family image after PAC analysis, she placed her family equally and considered the power equal as well. On PAC analysis, sixteen pieces of image was expressed by free association, and was organized into four clusters.

On a sequence of process, the subject has gotten the point of view to look at the family from many different angles. We recognize the process of promotion for her understanding about self in her family, family members, and the relationships with them. So, we can see her understanding, not only for herself but also for others and relationships with them. If we understand families as system, this promotion of understanding for others and relationships is significant. When we apply PAC analysis on the theme of“family”,we can spread out family images, even though we can't meet the client's family. This study suggests a point of view for family images that a person has and an approach based on them.
