Abstract

The gully region of Loess Plateau is one of the earliest human settlement areas and the most ecologically sensitive areas in China. In recent years, the living style of local village has changed dramatically as the rapid economic development in the process of the Construction of New Socialist Countryside. However, under the impact of exotic architectural culture, the eco-technology, traditional building materials and traditional forms that are contained in the traditional dwellings have been neglected. It leads to the traditional residential system replaced and gradually disappears. This article focuses on the superior ecological performance in the traditional dwellings, combines with climate, geography, culture, and society, and aims to explore how to draw eco-technology from traditional dwellings and apply them into modern residential buildings. So it can provide some beneficial references for the future residential design.
