Abstract

Housing plays an important role in human life. Urbanization is spreading rapidly along with economic development i many countries around the world. Vietnam is not an exception from this trend. On the other hand, rapid urbanization has given the government lots of pressures concerning citizen's housing demands Furthermore, because of the housing prices are currently far higher than most Vietnamese's afford ability owning a house is difficult. Therefore, solutions to increase construction speed, eficiency, reduce housing cost while still keeping required living standards are highly necessary. Prefabrication might be the answer to the question on how to overcome this challenge. Prefabrication is a construction method that could shorten construction time and produce buildings in large quantities, Japan is one of the countries where prefabrication plays a vital role in the construction industry, In South East Asia, there are several countries considering developing prefabrication as the main construction method such as Singapore and Malaysia. oreover, a few contractors in Vietnam have been able to successfully apply prefabrication construction method in housing projects. This proves the undeniable potential of using prefabrication in Vietnam's housing sector. In the long run, widely applying prefabrication method is expected to address the housing shortage issue in Vietnam.
