Abstract

Southwestern Group in Sri Lanka consists of lower grade metamorphic rocks. The detrital cores of zircon of garnet biotite gneiss are suggesting two possible Achaean sources. Overgrowths on the detrital cores of zircon shows two or three generation stages. Zircons in orthopyroxene-bearing gneisses show three sub-generations. Monazites in garnet-biotite gneiss show several internal textural domains.
