Abstract
Tridymite-added porcelain is stronger than usual porcelain. However, the reaction behavior of tridymite in firing process is investigated not enough. The reason is that conventional SEM/EDS is not able to discriminate between tridymite and quartz included in the Amakusa porcelain itself. It is well known that EBSD is a good tool to investigate crystal structure using with SEM. The method was applied first time to observe the porcelain body and it has shown the difference clearly tridymite from quartz.
