Abstract
The retrieval system of medical documents is required. However, the system is infrequently utilized. One of the factors must be that quality of the ranking does not satisfy needs of the users. The result of a questionnaire survey in Kyoto University Hospital indicates that users want to study from medical documents using a retrieval system. Therefore, a ranking method which values useful documents to study is necessary. In Web page retrieval, evaluations of the pages from around are reflected in the ranking not by using contents of the pages but by using external information of the pages such as a hyperlink structure. We think that a ranking method which values useful documents to study can be realized by using records of readings for the purpose of studying. In this study, we exploited records of readings and proposed the method derived from HITS, which is one of representative methods in Web page ranking. We evaluated our method using documents and the external information of Kyoto University Hospital. We asked a doctor to score the documents and created evaluation data. In the experiment, we made 17 medical students browse the medical documents for the purpose of study in order to collect reading records. Additionally, we conducted a questionnaire survey with the medical students and created evaluation data. We ranked the documents by the proposed method using the reading records of the medical students, and compared the ranking and the evaluation data. The result of the experiment did not reveal that the ranking of the proposed method was effective. However, the experiments showed that the users'evaluation of the documents was reflected in the ranking.
