We introduced a digital clinical image transfer system with Portable Digital Assistance (PDA) in 2015. The images taken with PDA are transferred to the electronic medical record system via the wireless LAN. One year after introducing the service, 3,408 medical records that included images taken with PDA were saved. We found that the system was more frequently used in surgical departments than in internal medicine departments. There was no statically significant difference in the number of digital images taken after the introduction of the PDA system compared with that taken with conventional digital imaging. This result suggests that both imaging systems would be used separately according to the clinical situation. The special features of this system include real-time transfer, easy user operation, and a lower rate of computer virus infections. It is speculated that stricter user authentication is required with this system because of the high portability of PDA images.
