The National University Hospital Remote Backup System (the GEMINI Project), which stores backup data of hospital information systems in remote locations, has been in operation since FY2014. At the University of Tokyo Hospital, a restore test using the GEMINI backup data was not performed because the restore destination was an active system. We conducted a network-based restore test using the old servers after system replacement. The results showed complete success in the medical accounting system database and imaging (one-year data) areas and partial success in the electronic medical record system database area. The estimated recovery time objective was approximately 45 minutes for the medical accounting system database area, 53 hours 45 minutes for the electronic medical record system database area, and approximately 97 hours 47 minutes for the imaging area (one-year data). Restoration using GEMINI backup data is an effective means of business continuity in national university hospitals.
