Application and Challenges of Implementing the Standard Administration Code of Prescription and Injection Order (HS027) at a University Hospital

Abstract

　Japan’s digital transformation plan in healthcare (Healthcare DX) aims to enhance information exchange and collaboration. In particular, the adoption of electronic prescription management services has accelerated in the pharmaceutical-related fields. Prescriptions must provide information about the drug as well as details regarding its administration. Standardization of electronic information sharing is essential, yet the “Standard Administration Code of Prescription and Injection Order (HS027)” has not been widely adopted. In this study, we attempted to implement the HS027 code in a university hospital. As a result, we found that the code was applicable to 74.6％ of administration master data and 97.4％ of issued prescription orders. We determined that, to facilitate the broader application of standard usage codes in medical institutions, it is necessary to develop compatible information systems and improve understanding and awareness within the medical field.
