Establishment of typical form of hyaline cast in urinary sediment through a photo questionnaire

Abstract

Recently, many studies have been reported on the clinical significance of the hyaline cast, but no consensus has been reached concerning criteria for the morphology of hyaline casts to distinguish between their different types. In this study, we distributed a photo questionnaire of hyaline casts to 643 urinary analysts. After we analyzed the morphological characteristics of hyaline casts from the provided results, we made a flowchart of hyaline cast criteria on the basis of the provided results. We hope that the convergence of the dispersion of the hyaline cast criteria and the elucidation of the clinical significance of the hyaline cast through this investigation will lead to standardized classification.
