Recently, it has been reported that the ratio of carbohydrate deficiency transferrin (%CDT) present in transferrin is useful as a marker of alcohol consumpstion. In general, Japanese people tend to drink less alcohol than Westerners. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the cutoff value, but there are few reports on this issue. We examined the Japanese cut-off value of %CDT in the detection of daily drinking habits in the medical examination business. The subjects were 234 patients who visited our medical examination center in February 2018. The questionnaire was used to classify 74 patients into the nondrinking group, 80 patients into the occasionally drinking group, and 80 patients into the daily drinking group. As a result of the examination, we found that the cut-off value for identifying a habitual drinker, that is, one who drinks daily, was 1.96%, the sensitivity was 18.8%, and the specificity was 95.0%.
