Components of Nurses’Role Expectation in Community-Based Integrated Care Systems

Abstract

Purpose：The purpose of this study was to examine the elements of role expectations for nurses in a community-based integrated care systems using role theory as a framework.

Methods：Role expectations, including role rules, were extracted from social norms and role concepts. A scale was developed to measure role expectations for nurses in c Community-based integrated care systems, and non-nursing professionals involved in community-based integrated care systems were surveyed about their level of expectation and practice. The analysis included item analysis, factor analysis for validity, reliability analysis employing the ω coefficient, and analysis of role expectations and practice using Wilcoxon's signed rank test.

Results：A total 55 role expectations were derived from the social norms and role conceptions and consolidated into 36 items, and three role rules were extracted: (a) “Respecting patients comprehensively and upholding their human rights, while building a support system that enables patients to continue living the life they want,” (b) “Coordinating support to assume all possible situations so that patients can receive the necessary support,” and (c) “Providing the nursing care the patient needs.”

Conclusion：The review of the components of role expectations revealed that the aggregated 36 items, including the three role expectations, accurately reflect the role expectations of nurses in Community-based integrated care systems.
