Olfaction is considered to be one of the most important senses for animals, gathering sensory information from the environment as they interact with the world around them. This sensory information has the potential to be acquired and be used in a variety of applications. In order to acquire and utilize this sensory information, it is necessary to establish a sensor to provide the responses from numerous types of olfactory receptors. In this article, we introduce an odor biosensor system using a sensor array with sensor cells expressing olfactory receptors. We then discuss the results of simple odor discrimination in order to demonstrate the feasibility of the odor biosensor system.
