Abstract

This study is a case series of two adults with both an intellectual disability and an autism spectrum disorder who display challenging behaviors during wait time even when provided with a Visual Schedule and PECS (Picture Exchange Communication system). The propose of this study is to display the process of their improvement for wait through the wait lesson created by Frost and Bondy (2002) as well as the change of their behaviors in a few wait situations in which they show problems. Each of them followed the wait lesson to obtain a skill for wait situations, which resulted in the disappearance of their challenging behaviors. We discuss the aspects of the wait lesson that affect the subjects skills for waiting, the benefits of using the program for staff to teach subjects, and how to apply the program into a welfare workplace. Key Words : adult individuals with autism spectrum disorder, challenging behavior, wait lesson, welfare workplace.
