Abstract
A magnetic force control device with laminate composite of magnetostrictive material and piezoelectric material is proposed. This magnetic force control is based on inverse magnetostrictive effect of a magnetic material, whereby the variation of magnetization in magnetostrictive material changed with the applied voltage on piezoelectric material is converted to that of magnetic force via magnetic circuits. Due to the capacitive properties of piezoelectric material, the device requires little electric energy to maintain constant force. Furthermore, the device is easy to assemble compared with conventional electromagnets. Here, the static characteristics of the magnetic force variation are investigated. Also the magnetic force variation is estimated by two calculations, piezoelectric-structural coupled FEM analysis and a solution of the equivalent magnetic circuit.
