Abstract
S-version finite element method (s-FEM) is an effective methodology to carry out the mesoscopic analyses of composite materials. In this method, the global structure of composite material is modeled by a coarse global mesh and second phase materials such as particles, fibers and voids are represented by finer local meshes. The analyses are carried by superposing the local meshes on the global model. Hence, macroscopic and mesoscopic analyses are simultaneously carried out without any difficulties in building finite element models of different length scales. This paper reports three-dimensional analysis of Wavy SMA (shape memory alloy) fiber/plaster composite material as an application of s-FEM. Some numerical results and discussions are given.
