Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the mentality attitude of families with schizophrenics by Camberwell Family Interview (CFI) and to assess the validity of CFI for measuring the mentality attitude. Eleven families which had schizophrenics were interviewed at their home using CFI. The results indicated that the mentality attitude of the families were characterized by three aspects. ; (1) The mentality attitude towards the patients included matters of family members, the relationship between the patients and family members, and the family dynamics. (2) The mentality attitude towards the disorder was divided into the denial and the acceptance of the disorder. (3) The mentality attitude in temporality, was the most important aspect since nineteen items, which relate to the past, present, and future, were revealed. The mentality attitude in temporality in understood as coping process of mourning work in the family. In this time processing the mentality attitude towards the disorder was also compounded in temporality. In addition, the essential characteristic of the mentality attitude of the family was ambivalent, therefore the condition of their ambivalent attitude should be focused to th family long term care. Finally, this study showed the validity for measuring the mentality attitude of families with schizophrenics.
