In the areas damaged by the Great East Japan Earthquake, there is an urgent need to provide employment opportunities. Unfortunately, however, it takes time to restore some types of industries, including the fishing industry. This paper examines the supply chain of distribution, automobile and fishing industries in order to understand the factors that influence the restoration process. It concludes that local economies could be vitalized through supply chain restoration by concentrating their resources on particular business areas with external support from concerned governments and stakeholders.
