The aim of this paper is to argue the challenges toward community-based reconstruction for recovery from the East Japan Great Earthquake. First, the author explains the current situation of damaged areas from the perspective of community-based reconstruction. Then, he discusses some cases of redesigning community in damaged areas in which he is directly is involved. Finally, the author indicates the necessity of continuity and linkage between redesigning communities and reconstruction projects, which will lead toward community-based reconstruction.
