Abstract

Oil fingerprinting technique, which evaluates connectivity among reservoirs using many trace compounds statically as fingerprint authentication, was applied to domestic reservoirs. Chromatograms of pretreated oils analyzed by GC-MS were processed by Malcom fluid characterization software (Schlumberger). The distribution histogram of the differences between chromatograms from samples were obtained, and the spread of the distribution was expressed by interquartile range (IQR). The similarity of crude oils was evaluated depending on its value.

By using this method, it was possible to distinguish multiple reservoir layers produced from multiple wells in the domestic sandstone reservoirs. Moreover, it was even possible to distinguish between two reservoirs vertically separated by shale of 10 m thick. To clarify the continuity between adjacent reservoirs or reservoirs compartmented by faults, it helps to develop reservoirs effectively. Furthermore, it helps not only reservoir development but also to evaluate migration accumulation and reservoir filling history.
