Abstract
Not many studies on the sedimentary rocks of Japan have been published so far. The writers have carried out geochemical studies on the specimens of sedimentary rocks belonging to the Urahoro group (Paleogene), which were collected in the Shoro District, Kushiro coal field. Nine specimens are analysed chemically and minor elements are also analysed spectrochemically of 21 specimens. The environment of sedimentation of this group is discussed on the basis of these results. It is considered that the sedimentary rocks belonging to this group deposited in the place where there is stronger effect of sea water than that presumed by paleontological methods.
