the Implication of the Bush "Middle East" Doctrine on Japan

Abstract

The September 11^th attack on the U.S. prompted the Bush Administration to base its Middle East policy on a set of assumptions very different from those on which the previous Administrations' policies were based. In its turn, the Bush "Middle East" Doctrine, which has replaced the 1980 Carter Doctrine, requires us to fundamentally reconsider how best to secure Japan's national interest in the Persian Gulf region.
