Abstract
Both the amount of research and the spread of research disciplines investigating river deltas have increased greatly in recent years. In particular, use of the term “mega-delta” in research papers has become more common since the Fourth Assessment Report of the IPCC was published in 2007. This article provides a brief history of collaborative research and continental shelves and deltas in Asia since the 1990s, most of which has been led by the Geological Survey of Japan, IGCP-475 DeltaMAP and APN mega-delta projects.
