Abstract
The results hitherto described indicate that the information obtained by magnetic methods is highly helpful for tephra identification. They lead the following conclusions:
(1) Magnetic properties of ferromagnetic minerals contained in different tephras, Akahoya and Miike pumice, are clearly different, so that discrimination of one from the other is easily achieved by magnetic method.
(2) Difference in the grain size of tephras has no primary influence on Ti content of titanomagnetite and accordingly magnetic properties, so that we do not need to be too cautious of grain-size sorting in magnetic studies.
