Abstract
In the construction industry in Japan, owner, architect and construction contractor have organized a self-contained management system based on their mutual trust, because of involvement of architect and construction contractor who excel in the quality management/control and adjustment/coordination in the building construction. However, in recent years where importance of transparency is increasingly stressed in the building construction, Construction Manager is required to play an important role as an independent professional for the benefit of the owner. Role of Construction Manager covers 6 categories of management in terms of cost, time, design, procurement, construction & safety, and quality of the building construction. In this paper, current situations and issues in construction management system in Japan has been treated.
