Abstract

The urban underground spaces have been playing a big role on the urban development and renewal in Japan. As characteristics of using the spaces, there are three points, capacity, alternative and continuance. The urban underground spaces were used as infrastructural capacity and traffic network. Traffic and access function have been placed importance in the traffic network. In recent years, the urban underground spaces are watched as bustling spaces. In the meanwhile, they are faced with the harsh realities such as disaster and deterioration. This discourse aims to show Planning Transition and Contemporary Problems regarding the Urban Underground Spaces.
