The work of housewives and mothers in the Netherlands

Abstract

In the Netherlands where women's labour participation has sharply increased in the past two decades, the vast majority of married women with young children still opt for part-time labour while their husbands remain in the full-time contract. This paper sheds light to the concept of "housework" as culturally important tasks for mothers and housewives, in order to loate the major determinants of women's work patterns.
