Abstract
The kindergarten market in Japan is rapidly changing. The low number of children has resulted in a growing struggle among kindergartens to attract them. This presentation, by considering children as a common-pool resource (CPR), examines the situation in Akita City. It shows how mothers, and also households, are benefitting in terms of convenience due to competition among kindergartens for their children.
