Abstract
In this presentation I examine mahu and raerae, transgender and transsexuality in French Polynesia. I argue that more people in Tahiti than those in Bora Bora distinguish mahu from raerae by explaining mahu as traditional and natural and raerae as modern and artificial because raerae in Tahiti stand out as prostitute while raerae in Bora Bora are more integrated into the society.
