Abstract
This session discusses the dynamic relationships between the military which is often engaged in transnational activities and the society which is national and local to some extent and the military is based or grounded in. We read papers on combat stress of Japan Self Defense Forces' personnel, changes in Korean conscription system, Ryukyuan-American Cultural Center made by US military administration, Amerasian School in Okinawa, and inclusion of retired British Gurkhas into UK society.
