Abstract

[Purpose]

This study aimed to show the current status of the roles and helping activities that should be prioritized in adjustment guidance classes from the instructor’s point of view, and to examine how instructors’ consciousness has changed over the last 23 years.

[Methods]

A questionnaire was constructed based on the questions and scales used in a previous study conducted in 2000, and analyzed by comparison with the results of the previous study. Data of 493 instructors working in 178 adjustment guidance classes nationwide were finally analyzed, with a collection rate of 52.8%.

[Results]

The results indicated that instructors showed extremely low agreement with the original role of adjustment guidance classes, ‘return to school life,’ compared with 23 years ago. Furthermore, it was indicated that “psychological and clinical approach,” “learning support,” and “cooperation with the exterior” are emphasized as elements of helping activities.

[Discussion/Conclusion]

The results suggested that, as instructors of adjustment guidance classes do not necessarily emphasize helping students return to school, classes are now expected to play a new role in guaranteeing career paths and learning opportunities in cooperation with external organizations. However, since this study has limitations in sampling consistency, a more comprehensive nationwide survey should be conducted in the future.
