Abstract
In this paper, we explain the importance of academic publishing of subspecies identification for Japanese bird checklists. In addition, we discuss the relationship between Japanese and scientific names. Sometimes, when classification is changed, subspecies identification can be key (i.e., a subspecies may be designated as a species). The subspecies identification is difficult in common observation, but Bird banding is a good opportunity for the identification. We hope Japanese bird-banding researchers attempt this identification.
