Abstract
1. The breeding of a population of Emberiza fucata has been studied since 1978 in Ajisu Reclaimed Land, Yamaguchi Prefecture. This site is loceted low at the sea level compared to the known breeding sites of this species in other areas of southwestern Japan. An intensive field investigation was conducted during the period from August, 1986 to July, 1987.
2. The breeding season was from April through August.
3. The number of individuals of this population was estimated to reach the largest in June (Figs, 3 & 4).
4. The population began leaving the reclaimed land at the end of September and
most individuals have gone away before December.
5. Two types of eggs were observed; one is with sparse linear markings and the other with dense small brown spots throughout the surface (Figs, 7 & 8).
