Exposure of the anterior commissure is essential in laryngomicrosurgical procedures. Zeitels laryngoscope is innovative in enhancing exposure of the anterior portion of the glottis. Featuring a triangular shape in the distal lumen of its tube, this scope has been used in 15 cases in our center, including 9 cases of cancer, 3 of Reinke's edema, 1 each of leukoplakia, polyp, and granuloma. In all cases, sufficient surgical view was obtained, including the anterior commissure, without any complications such as hypogausia or injury to teeth.
Zeitels scope was found to be useful particularly in surgical procedures for the anterior commissure. It was unsuitable for treatment of supraglottic structures such as the ventricle and the false vocal fold.
