Abstract
High-resolution magnified motion pictures of the larynx illuminated with either halogen or strobe light greatly help to identify and diagnose laryngeal diseases. Those pictures also can be used to observe and understand better the clinical courses of the diseases. Therefore, the technology makes reasonable a conservative strategy for managing certain epithelial lesions of the larynx. Invasive diagnostic or surgical procedures such as laryngoscopic biopsy and surgeries can be minimized. In this article, we tried to demonstrate the rationales of the conservative strategy on managing patients with vocal process granuloma, prolonged ulcerative laryngitis, laryngeal tuberculosis, or premalignant lesions of the larynx.
