Abstract
Popliteal artery entrapment syndrome (PAES) is caused by an anomalous relationship between the popliteal artery and its surrounding musculotendinous structures. This problem is commonly encountered in active young male patients. We herein report an unusual case of PAES in a 63-year-old female. She presented with a one-year history of intermittent claudication of the right leg. Computed tomography revealed that her right occluded popliteal artery was displaced medially by the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle. Surgical treatment involved revascularization with an interposition vein graft and myotomy of the medial head of the gastrocnemius muscle. PAES can also occur in aged patients.
