Abstract

Symptomatic improvement was achieved by catheter-directed thrombolysis and iliac vein stenting in a patient with deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which had developed presumably due to posterior compression by lumbar spondylosis. The patient exhibited conditions indicative of iliac vein compression syndrome that can cause massive blood clots and respond poorly to anticoagulant therapy. Catheter-directed thrombolysis combined with intravenous stenting can improve symptoms by early restoration of venous perfusion; it is also considered effective for avoiding development of post-thrombotic syndrome.
