Abstract

Small amount of Yb₂O₃ were added in Si₃N₄-Lu₂O₃-SiO₂ ceramics to improve their mechanical properties, and effect of the addition on gas-pressure sintering behavior and mechanical properties were investigated. The addition of small amount of Yb₂O₃ improved high temperature strength as well as fracture toughness, though the addition led to pore formation after gas-pressure sintering.
