Abstract

The rate of dissolution of zircon in molten binary system slag was studied by rotating cylindrical specimen (about 20×30mm, 15% apparent porosity) at a constant speed of 100rpm in a stationary crucible containing the slag melt at 1500°C.
The dissolution rate of zircon in binary slag decreased remarkably with decrease in FeO content of the slag with the exception of FeO-MnO slag. The dissolution rate in FeO-SiO2 slag (SiO2=0-40wt%) was about 7.5×10-3-1.1×10-4cm/s, and in FeO-CaO slag it was higher than that in the former. The dissolution rate in FeO-MnO slag was similar to that in FeO alone, and in CaO-SiO2 slag it was order of one-hundredth of that in above-mentioned binary slag.
