Abstract
Zirconium diboride compact could be easily etched to give satisfactory textures for optical microscopy when the specimen was immersed in H3PO4 or H2SO4 in contact with platinum wire. Proper etching condition was 2 to 4 minutes immersion in the acids at about 60°C. Etching without Pt needed longer time immersion and the revealed texture was not satisfactory. The etching together with Pt was thought to be an electrochemical process.
